The world has suddenly become a less creative place as the beloved, genius designer, Alexander McQueen was found dead in his London flat this morning. The fashion world is in a state of utter shock to learn that McQueen is said to have hung himself a mere week after the passing of his beloved mother to whom meant the entire world to him. Many anguished Twitter messages from his now deleted account lead fans to believe suicide is something the designer had been constantly pondering in the week since his mothers passing.
One can only wonder if the 40 year old McQueen didn’t have a strong support system around to notice this rapid downwards spiral… Sound familiar? (We wondered if MJ didn’t either) Either way this tragedy makes one thing abundantly clear – there are people hurting out there, let’s start paying attention.
Editor-in-chief of Vogue Magazine, Anna Wintour released this statement which really says it all:
“We are devastated to learn of the death of Alexander McQueen, one of the greatest talents of his generation. He brought a uniquely British sense of daring and aesthetic fearlessness to the global stage of fashion. In such a short career, Alexander McQueen’s influence was astonishing — from street style, to music culture and the world’s museums. His passing marks an insurmountable loss.”
Rest In Peace Alexander – WE love you…
